Polish B1 oral exam simulation – practise speaking before the session

In short

The oral exam simulation is a single 30-minute online meeting in which you go through the oral part of the B1 exam just as in a real session, and then get feedback from the teacher. You draw a set of tasks, speak on your own and talk in a set situation. At the end you know what cost you points and which phrases to practise before the exam.

When the simulation makes the most sense

The simulation is for people who are more afraid of the oral part than of the written one, or who have never spoken Polish in front of an examiner. It is a good first step if you do not want to enrol on a course straight away – after one meeting you know whether speaking is your strong or your weak point. If you want to check all parts of the exam, choose the full mock exam.

What the oral part of the B1 exam looks like

The oral part of the B1 exam lasts no longer than 15 minutes, and the candidate draws one of the sets of tasks – this is what the regulation in force for the 2026 sessions says. It takes place after the written part, on the same or the next day. To pass it you need at least 50% of the points. At B1 level you are expected to be able to talk about your interests and plans, describe a situation, express an opinion and give reasons for it, and cope with a short conversation. You will find typical conversation topics among our sample questions for the oral exam.

How the 30 minutes of the simulation run

  1. Drawing a set – the teacher shows the sets on the screen, and you pick one blind.
  2. The exam part – about 15 minutes: a statement on a given topic, a description or an opinion, and a conversation in a situation in which the teacher plays the other person.
  3. Marking – the teacher marks your performance against the commission’s criteria, as in the exam.
  4. Discussion – in the remaining time you hear what went well, what cost you points and how to improve specific sentences.
  5. A note after the meeting – you get a list of mistakes with correct versions and phrases to revise.

What the teacher pays attention to

Most points are lost not because of single grammar mistakes, but because of answers that are too short and a lack of reaction to the other person. The teacher checks whether your statement is on topic, whether it is coherent, whether your vocabulary is enough for the situation and whether the mistakes make understanding difficult. In conversation it also matters whether you can ask for something to be repeated or make sure you have understood correctly.

Example from a simulation – a conversation in a situation:

Task: you are returning a jacket that has broken, in a shop. The student: „Kurtka zła. Chcę pieniądze.” After the discussion: Dzień dobry, kupiłem tę kurtkę w zeszłym tygodniu, a już zepsuł się zamek. Czy mogę ją wymienić albo dostać zwrot pieniędzy? Mam paragon. The same content, but in full sentences, with a polite tone and a specific request.

Included in the simulation price

  • 30 minutes with the teacher on Google Meet: the oral part under exam conditions and a discussion.
  • Marking against the commission’s criteria and information on whether you are above the threshold.
  • A written note with mistakes, correct versions and phrases to revise.
  • Explanations in Polish, English, Russian or Spanish.

When to sign up

Tell us when you are taking the exam, and we will propose a date for the simulation. You will get the most out of a simulation done 3–6 weeks before the session – there is still time to practise what comes out in the discussion. If after the simulation it turns out that speaking needs more work, you can join the conversation classes or take a few individual lessons.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have a sheet of notes during the simulation?

No, because you will not have one in the exam either. Notes with prepared phrases are useful before the simulation, not during it.

Can the simulation be repeated with a different set?

Yes. A second simulation a few weeks later shows whether the recommendations from the first one brought results.

Is the simulation also available for B2 level?

Yes, if you are taking B2 – tell us when you enrol, and the teacher will prepare sets from that level.
