Polish B1 course online – prepare for every part of the exam
The B1 course at Pol-Langua prepares you for the state exam in Polish as a foreign language at B1 level – required, among other things, for citizenship and for an EU long-term resident permit. In a group the programme has 24 lessons, and in the individual version 20 lessons; both versions include two mock exams in which the teacher marks your writing and speaking against the commission’s criteria. Classes take place online. At the trial lesson we will check how far you are from B1 and set the start date.
When it is worth signing up for the B1 course
The course is for adults who speak Polish at least at A2 level and want to pass the B1 exam in one of the nearest sessions. Most often these are people who need the certificate for citizenship, for EU long-term resident status or for a post-secondary school. If you are starting from zero, it is better to choose the from-scratch course – and move on to the B1 course once you reach A2.
What you will learn
On the course you practise all parts of the exam, because each one has to be passed separately – at B1 level the condition for passing is at least 50% of the points in each module of the written part and in the oral part. That is why we do not leave writing and speaking until the end, but work on them from the first week.
| Exam part | What we practise | Example from a lesson |
|---|---|---|
| Listening comprehension | announcements, conversations, short interviews; catching numbers, times and names | „Pociąg do Krakowa odjedzie z peronu trzeciego z opóźnieniem około dwudziestu minut.” |
| Reading comprehension | notices, articles, letters; looking for information and the author’s intention | recognising whether a text requests or forbids: Uprzejmie prosimy o zamykanie drzwi vs Zabrania się palenia |
| Grammatical correctness | cases, aspect, numerals, polite forms | Nie mam czasu (genitive after negation), not „nie mam czas” |
| Writing | formal and informal letters and emails, a notice, a description, an opinion | Zwracam się z prośbą o…, Z poważaniem |
| Speaking | talking about yourself, a description, an opinion with reasons, a conversation in a situation | Moim zdaniem…, ponieważ…; Czy mógłby pan powtórzyć? |
How many points each part gives and how the result is calculated is explained in our guide to the structure and scoring of the B1 exam.
What the classes look like
A lesson lasts 50 minutes and takes place on Google Meet, in a group of up to 5 people or one to one. A typical lesson has three parts: a short conversation on a topic from the exam catalogue, new grammar or vocabulary through examples, and a timed task in the exam format. You hand in written work between classes – it comes back with corrections and a comment. You get explanations in Polish, English, Russian or Spanish.
Example from a lesson – a typical mistake in a formal letter:
The student writes: „Dzień dobry Pan, chcę zapytać o kurs.” After the correction: Szanowny Panie, zwracam się z uprzejmą prośbą o informację na temat kursu. The teacher explains that in the salutation of a letter we use the vocative (Panie, Pani), and in a formal letter we avoid the blunt „chcę” in favour of polite forms.
The programme: from the diagnosis to the second mock exam
- A trial lesson with a diagnosis – the teacher checks which part of the exam is weakest today and helps you choose a realistic session from the exam calendar.
- Grammar foundation – cases in the singular and plural, verb aspect, the past and future tenses.
- Everyday topics – family, home, free time, travel, study and work: vocabulary and oral statements.
- The first mock exam in the middle of the course – a full exam with marking of writing and speaking.
- Work on the weaker part – a plan based on the report from the mock exam.
- The second mock exam before the session – we check whether every part has a safe margin of points.
Included in the course price
- 24 lessons in a group or 20 individual lessons and two mock exams with marking of writing and speaking.
- Corrected written work with a comment on what to change and why.
- A monthly progress report – what you can already do and what we are working on next.
- Contact with the teacher via WhatsApp between classes.
The first step
Book a trial lesson. The teacher will assess your level and tell you whether the B1 course is right for you already now, or whether it is better to finish A2 first. If only a few weeks are left before the session, see the B1 sprint – a short, intensive course before the exam.
Frequently asked questions
Is the B1 course in a group or one to one?
You can choose: in a group of up to 5 people (24 lessons) or individually (20 lessons). Both versions include two mock exams marked by the teacher.
After the course, do I take the exam with you?
No. You take the state exam at the exam centre where you register. We prepare you for the exam and help you choose a session.
What if I miss a lesson in a group?
You will get the materials and the task from that lesson, and you can clear up any doubts with the teacher via WhatsApp.
Do we also practise the ECL or telc exam on the B1 course?
The programme is built for the state exam, but the skills are the same. If you are taking another exam from the list, tell us in the trial lesson – we will adjust the tasks.
