Polish from scratch online – from your first words to B1 in clear stages
The from-scratch course is for people who do not know Polish or know only single words. It leads from zero through levels A1 and A2 to B1 in clear stages – each stage in a group is 20 lessons, and after each one you know what exactly you can say and write. Classes take place online in groups of up to 5 people or individually, with explanations in English, Russian, Spanish or Polish. You start with a trial lesson – you do not need to know anything beforehand.
Starting from zero? This course is for you
The course is for adults who have come, or plan to come, to Poland – for work, study or family – and are starting to learn from zero. It will be especially useful for people to whom Polish seems “impossible” because it does not resemble their mother tongue. At the beginning you do not need to know anything – not even how to read Polish letters.
What you will learn – stages from zero to B1
The path has three stages, and each one ends with something you can test in real life in Poland. The stages correspond to the levels of the European A1–C2 scale – see what each of them means.
| Stage | What you can do after the stage | Sample sentences |
|---|---|---|
| From zero to A1 | introduce yourself, do shopping, ask for directions, give your address and phone number | Mam na imię Ana. Jestem z Kolumbii. Mieszkam w Warszawie. Poproszę dwie bułki. |
| A1 → A2 | tell what you did yesterday, make an appointment, talk about work and family | Wczoraj byłam u lekarza. Czy mogę umówić się na wtorek? |
| A2 → B1 | express an opinion, describe a problem, write a formal email, talk about plans | Moim zdaniem to dobry pomysł, ale… Piszę w sprawie… |
What the first lessons look like
The first lessons are about pronouncing letters that do not exist in your language and sentences you will use the very next day. We do not start with tables of cases – we introduce grammar when it is needed for a specific sentence.
Example from the first lesson:
The letters sz, cz, ś, ć in words from everyday life: szkoła, czekolada, środa, ćwiczenie. Right after that, the first sentences: Dzień dobry! – a greeting during the day, Dziękuję – thanks, Przepraszam, nie rozumiem – when someone speaks too fast. You will find the whole alphabet with pronunciation in our guide to Polish letters.
A lesson lasts 50 minutes and takes place on Google Meet. In a group of up to 5 people everyone speaks in every lesson, and the teacher explains harder things in English, Russian or Spanish – with time more and more in Polish.

Frequently asked questions
Can I start the from-scratch course if I do not speak English?
Yes. Explanations are also in Russian and Spanish, and from the first lessons we use simple Polish with pictures and gestures.
How long does one stage of the from-scratch course take?
In a group a stage is 20 lessons. How many weeks that takes depends on the number of lessons per week – we agree on it together with the group.
After the from-scratch course, can I take the B1 exam straight away?
After the A2 → B1 stage you are close to B1 level. Before the exam, however, it is worth practising its format in the B1 course or in a mock exam.
