Polish for employees in your industry
Pol-Langua runs Polish courses for employees in six industries: warehouse and logistics, production and welding, construction, transport, IT and office, and catering and hospitality. In each industry the programme is based on situations from the workstation – instructions, safety, documents and conversations with a supervisor. We supplement the vocabulary with materials provided by the company. We will set the programme for your team after a language audit of your employees.
Why an industry programme rather than a general course
An industry programme teaches first the words and sentences the employee will use at work – a general course gets to them after many months, or never. A warehouse worker does not need restaurant vocabulary at the start, and a cook does not need the names of forklift trucks. The grammar is the same; the examples and the order of topics differ. We build every course for companies on this principle.
Six industries – situations and examples
For each industry we have chosen the situations that most often cause trouble for employees from abroad in the first months.
| Industry | Key situations | An example sentence |
|---|---|---|
| Warehouse and logistics | Order picking, locations, stock levels, trucks, stocktaking | Tego towaru nie ma na stanie, sprawdzę w drugiej strefie. |
| Production and welding | Operating a machine, quality control, technical drawings, health and safety | W spoinie są pory, trzeba ją poprawić. |
| Construction | Tools, materials, work at height, a foreman's instructions | Podaj mi poziomicę i dwa worki kleju. |
| Transport and drivers | Loading, transport documents, talking to a dispatcher, a roadside check | Jestem na rozładunku, będę mieć godzinę opóźnienia. |
| IT and office | Meetings, emails, tickets, talking to a client | Wyślę poprawioną wersję do końca dnia. |
| Catering and hospitality | Serving guests, orders, allergens, the kitchen, reception | Czy ma pan alergię na orzechy? |
What we emphasise in each industry
In each industry a different skill decides whether the employee can manage on their own – and that is where we start the programme.
Warehouse and logistics
Numbers, locations and product names matter most – a mistake in one digit means an incorrectly picked order. We practise numerals with nouns (dwie palety, pięć palet) and instructions with a place (na górną półkę, do strefy wysyłek).
Production and welding
In production, what counts is reporting faults and understanding instructions, and in a welding shop also the markings on a technical drawing. We practise describing a problem in the past tense (maszyna stanęła, lampka się nie zapaliła) and quality control vocabulary.
Construction
On a construction site most instructions are given on the move and colloquially, often amid noise. We teach the names of tools and materials, a foreman's short instructions and warning phrases (uważaj, odsuń się, nie wchodź).
Transport and drivers
A driver talks mainly on the phone – with a dispatcher, a warehouse, a client – so we practise listening comprehension without gestures or images. Transport documents and phrases needed at a roadside check are added.
IT and office
In an office, Polish is needed in meetings, in emails and in conversations with a client. We practise polite forms (czy mógłby pan, uprzejmie proszę), writing short messages and taking part in a team meeting.
Catering and hospitality
In serving guests, courtesy and quick reactions matter, and in the kitchen – product names, quantities and allergens. We practise phrases for guests (czy mogę już podać rachunek?) and communication in the kitchen at peak times.
Words that mean something different at work
In every industry there are words that the employee knows from a dictionary but that at work mean something more or something different. We discuss such words separately, because they lead to misunderstandings.
| Word or phrase | What it means at work | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|
| na stanie | available in the warehouse | warehouse, shop |
| wózek | most often a forklift or a pallet truck, not a pram | warehouse, production |
| zmiana | working time according to the schedule: first, second, night shift | all industries with shift work |
| L4 | colloquially, a sick leave certificate | all industries |
| fajrant | colloquially, the end of work | construction, production |
| na wczoraj | colloquially: very urgent | office, IT |
| na wynos | to take away, not to eat on the premises | catering |
A tip for the manager: if your company has abbreviations and internal names (names of zones, machines, forms), pass them on to the teacher. The employee will learn them in the lesson instead of guessing on the shop floor.
How we tailor the programme to the company
We tailor the industry programme in three steps, and the company takes part only in the first.
- Materials from the company – workstation instructions, health and safety signs, model documents, a list of the most common instructions.
- Workstation glossary – the teacher selects words and sentences for the first weeks from the materials.
- Practice in situations – employees role-play conversations from their shift: reporting a fault, a shift handover, a conversation with a client.
The first step is a language audit – we will check your employees’ level and propose a programme for their job roles.
Frequently asked questions
Can employees from different departments study in one group?
Yes, if they are at a similar level. Grammar and communication in the team are shared, and we practise the departments' vocabulary in separate tasks.
Do you run a Polish course for carers and medical staff?
We do not run a separate medical course. For people working in care we have prepared a care and medicine glossary, and individual lessons can cover this vocabulary.
What if my industry is not on the list?
We build the programme from materials provided by the company, so an industry outside the list is not an obstacle. Write to us about what the team does, and we will propose the scope of the course.
Free team level audit, an industry-specific programme, a monthly report for HR and a VAT invoice.
