Polish course for production and welding – instructions, drawings, dimensions, health and safety
The Polish course for production workers and welders teaches you to understand the foreman's instructions and workstation procedures, read the descriptions on a technical drawing in Polish, state dimensions, describe weld defects and report machine breakdowns. Six modules cover levels A1–B1, and each combines shop-floor vocabulary with one language skill. Lessons are online, one-to-one or in a group of up to 5 people. We will match the vocabulary to the machines and methods you work with.
For welders, operators and fitters
The course is for foreigners who work on a production floor or in a welding shop and want to talk to the foreman, the process engineer and quality control without an interpreter. It belongs to our group of Polish at work courses.
- welders using MIG/MAG, TIG and covered-electrode methods,
- machine operators: presses, injection moulding machines, CNC lathes and milling machines,
- fitters, metalworkers, grinders and production line workers,
- quality inspectors and shift leaders who report to Polish management.
Workplace situations we practise
We practise the situations in which not understanding costs the most: a wrong dimension, a faulty batch or a warning that was ignored.
| Situation | Example in Polish |
|---|---|
| The foreman's instruction | Najpierw sczep cały detal, potem pokaż mi, zanim zaczniesz spawać. |
| Technical drawing | Otwór ma średnicę dziesięć milimetrów, tolerancja plus minus jedna dziesiąta. |
| Quality control | Ta spoina jest do poprawki – ma pory i podtopienie na końcu. |
| Breakdown | Prasa stanęła, na panelu jest błąd czujnika. Wezwałem kogoś z utrzymania ruchu. |
| Health and safety | Przed czyszczeniem wyłącz maszynę i zablokuj wyłącznik. |
| Shift handover | Do końca zlecenia zostało czterdzieści sztuk, potem trzeba przezbroić maszynę na nowy detal. |
The course programme in modules
The programme leads from your workstation and machine to an independent shift report – step by step, in six modules.
- Workstation and machine. Names of machines, parts and tools, introducing yourself to the foreman, describing your own experience: Spawam metodą MAG od pięciu lat.
- Instructions and procedures. The imperative, the order of steps (najpierw, potem, na końcu), reading a short workstation procedure.
- Technical drawing and measurements. Numerals with units, decimal fractions (zero przecinek pięć milimetra), diameter, radius, thread, tolerance, measuring tools.
- Welding. Methods, parameters, welding positions, types of welds and their defects, talking to the foreman before a welding test.
- Health and safety and protection. Personal protective equipment, the emergency stop, machine lock-out, hot work, reporting an accident.
- Quality, breakdowns and the shift report. Rejects and waste, describing a fault in the past tense, talking to quality control, shift handover.
We have collected the words from the modules in the production and welding glossary.
The most common mistakes with dimensions and machines
Numbers with units and verb aspect cause the most trouble – and these are what decide whether a part has the right dimension.
| What learners say | Correct | Why |
|---|---|---|
| dwa przecinek pięć milimetrów | dwa przecinek pięć milimetra | after a decimal fraction the noun is in the genitive singular |
| dwa i pół milimetrów | dwa i pół milimetra | after “pół” (half) – the genitive singular |
| Spawałem ten detal. (when the job is finished) | Zespawałem ten detal. | a completed action – the perfective aspect; more in our guide to verbal aspect |
| Maszyna zepsuła. | Maszyna się zepsuła. | “zepsuć się” is a reflexive verb; without “się” it means that someone broke something |
| włącz (instead of “wyłącz”) | wyłącz – stop, włącz – start | a one-letter difference, but the opposite result – we practise it by ear |
Starting level
You start the course at level A1 and finish at B1 – the trial lesson decides which module you start with.
- You are starting from zero – the first lessons are numbers, units, names of tools and the simplest instructions. The from-scratch course is also a good foundation.
- You understand instructions but speak little – we start with modules 3–4: dimensions, welding and describing a problem.
- You speak freely – we work on the shift report, talking to quality control and the role of a leader.
Tell us about your workstation
The simplest way is to check your level and have a trial lesson in which you tell us about your workstation.
- Take the placement test or book a trial lesson with a level assessment straight away.
- Prepare a list of the machines and methods you work with – the teacher will match the vocabulary to them.
- Choose one-to-one lessons or a group of people at a similar level.

Frequently asked questions
Does the course help me read a technical drawing written in Polish?
Yes. In module 3 we practise the descriptions and abbreviations on a drawing (diameter, radius, chamfer, thread, tolerance) and reading dimensions aloud. The course teaches language – it does not teach technical drawing itself from scratch.
Is the course only for welders?
No. Modules 1–3, 5 and 6 apply to any production job. A machine operator or fitter can replace the welding module with the vocabulary of their own workstation.
Do we practise talking to the foreman before a welding test?
Yes. In module 4 you practise describing your experience, methods and welding positions, and the questions the foreman asks before the test, e.g. W jakich pozycjach spawasz?
Vocabulary and conversations from your industry. Book a trial lesson and we will tailor the programme.
